Performance artist Paul Merklein has a habit of drawing crowds - literally. Performing for audiences of all ages, from elementary schools to family festivals, Merklein enjoys taking his special brand of art out on the road where he finds a nice mix of people to work with."Kids usually 'get' what I'm doing immediately because they are more receptive to new ideas, and the adults usually follow," says Merklein
His Great Big Faces show combines dynamic art and audience participation in his creation of 6-foot tall faces of kids and adults using oil paints"I call it creating art in action for everyone," says the Milwaukee resident, adding that he typically performs for the audience in the back row. "If I can hold their attention, I'm happy.
"As a performance artist, Merklein draws on the energy and spontaneity of the crowd. "Doing what I do on stage in front of hundreds of people is pretty intoxicating," says Merklein, . I always have fun with a fresh audience that hasn't seen my show and has no expectations."
